Open Access: More Easily Comply with Pending Funding Requirements
Wellcome Trust recently announced that - effective April 1, 2013 - whenever an Open Access fee is paid with Wellcome Trust funds, the article must be made available through the Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY). This means publishers must make articles that are funded by Wellcome Trust freely available to copy, share or otherwise use, including commercially. According to Wellcome Trust: "Failure to comply with the policy could result in final grant payments being withheld and non-compliant publications being discounted when applying for further funding."
This places an expectation on publishers - especially those who still wish to collect fees for commercial use when permissible - to manage variable business rules for reuse at the article level. CCC can help you navigate this complexity without overburdening your staff. Using RightsLink, you can:
Manage unique pricing rules, licenses and messaging for your Open Access journals to help ensure compliance with funding agency requirements
Pre-publication, charge different Open Access fees based on variables such as author affiliation/membership, funding source and journal type
Post-publication, communicate publisher-specified reuse rights to users seeking permissions for all content, including Open Access articles
Manage permissions on third-party repositories such as HighWire or PubMed Central
Capture valuable data about user interest in and reuse of your Open Access publications
To ensure you are ready to meet the April 1 deadline, contact your account manager or visit www.copyright.com/openaccess to learn more.
CCC Launches Integrated Licensing and Content Delivery Solutions
At the Frankfurt Book Fair last month, CCC launched its new content delivery solutions . Over 100 guests joined for a two-hour event during which Jayne Marks, Vice President of Publishing at Wolters Kluwer Health, spoke about capturing new revenue through copyright compliant content delivery. Also, Darren Gillgrass, Managing Director: Custom Publishing at Informa Healthcare joined us for a conversation about Open Access and managing complex new business models.
CCC's new content delivery solutions enable rightsholders to meet demands of corporate and academic users who want to be able to purchase content - beyond their subscriptions - within their workflows and, simultaneously, get detailed information on the rights they have to reuse and share it. CCC's content solutions are available through its already heavily adopted RightSphere, RightsLink, Get It Now and Pubget.
In each of these channels you can:
Earn new revenue
Set pricing for purchase and/or rental
Access real-time content usage reporting
Retain control over how your content is used through CCC's state-of-the-art content viewer
